So without further ado, here are 6 Social media facts that will knock your socks off:
● 3,500,000 active users
We all know Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, and other social media platforms. But SixDegrees.com was the first true social media website. It was created by Andrew Weinreich in 1997. On SixDegrees, a user could set up a profile page, make connections, and message within the network. It lasted from 1997 to 2001. At its peak, it had 3,500,000 active registered users.
● The only country which is still out of social media’s reach. Do you know which one?
North Korea, you guessed it.
It is the only country in the whole wide world that does not have any form of social media.
The country has some form of intranet, but the administration has strict control over the overall mass media. And even if, by some miracle, a user posts something from the country, it will go through the authorities, which will ultimately delete it.
I wonder how they live without posting a picture of their food every day?
● Do you know how much time people spend on the internet?
As of 2019, the average daily social media usage of internet users worldwide amounted to just a little shy of two and half hours per day. If added up, it results in 840 hours per year, which is almost 10% of an entire year.
It was projected that an average adult would spend almost six years and eight months of their life on social media.
Now, that’s a big commitment.
In the Philippines, this number is even higher. People there, on average, spend three hours and 53 minutes on social media each day, the highest in the world.
If we talk about specific age groups, 16 to 24 years old are racing far ahead than any other group by spending an average of three hours and 1 minute daily on social media.
● In 2020, over 3.6 billion people used social media.
926.8 billion of those were Chinese internet users and Indians standing close to 350 million current social media users.
According to a recent forecast, by 2025, there will be more than 4.41 billion users worldwide.
● 16 Billion apps

A whopping number indeed!
